International Online Exchange Seminar with the University of Da Nang

— Learning Cultural Competency in Nursing —

On January 19, 2026, Kobe City College of Nursing held an international online exchange seminar titled “Cultural Competency in Nursing” in collaboration with the University of Da Nang (Vietnam).

During the seminar, faculty members from both universities introduced nursing education and nursing practice in their respective countries, followed by presentations on learning outcomes by students. A wide range of topics was shared and discussed, including nursing communication that takes religious and cultural differences into account, community-based disaster nursing education, and challenges in intercultural communication.

Many participating students commented that they had realized cultural understanding is important not only when caring for foreign patients, but also in responding to differences within local communities and across generations. Others noted that respecting patients’ cultures and values contributes to providing nursing care that fosters a sense of safety and trust.

Kobe City College of Nursing will continue to promote the development of nursing professionals who can practice nursing with respect for people’s lives and cultures, by engaging in international exchange and encountering diverse values.
